Alice

Alice Soko is 35 years old, and lives with her husband and 2 children in Chipata district in the Eastern province of Zambia. Alice has been supported by MicroLoan Foundation since 2010, and has taken several loans since then. Her first loan was approximately £83, and was used to set up a market stall selling kapenta (small fish), rice and beans near her home. In the last 3 years, Alice’s business has grown considerably, and she is now receiving loans of around £240. With these larger loans, Alice can purchase more produce to sell on, increasing her business profits.

The support Alice has received from MicroLoan Foundation has enabled her to send her children to school, as well as supporting other relatives in her family. Alice has no problems paying back her loans, as her profits are consistent. Alice is looking forward to the future. Hopefully it won’t be too long before she can run her business without loans.
