Peter Ryan - CEO, Founder & Trustee

Peter Ryan

Peter Ryan is a Chiswick businessman with a background in starting up businesses for other companies in Europe and Africa.  During a trip to Malawi in 1997 which he described as “mind-blowing”  he was profoundly influenced by what he saw, particularly the disparity between the rich and the poor.

Recognising the need and opportunity for microfinance services in sub-Saharan Africa Peter founded the MicroLoan Foundation in the late 1990's.

Peter is a career banker having worked in the banking industry for fourteen years. His last job was as Head of Corporate Banking with overall responsibility for new business development and relationship management with special emphasis on major corporate clients. He was actively involved in the areas of lending, structured trade finance, exchange control and international trade transactions.  Peter holds a  BSc (Hons) degree in Financial Services and is an associate of the Institute of Financial Services (IFS). He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic.  Peter joined the MicroLoan Foundation on 1st December 2011.

Kenson Chiphaka, CEO Zambia

Kenson is the first employee and CEO for the MicroLoan Foundation in Africa. He has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and 13 years of experience in microfinance. Kenson started MicroLoan Malawi from scratch in 2002 and managed it until it grew and received recognition as a major leanding institution. Kenson then went onto repeat this success by starting MicroLoan Zambia from scratch after 2007.


Our Trustees

MicroLoan's dedicated Trustee Boards, in the UK and Africa, help to identify and mitigate risk.  The UK Board consists of a mix of leading corporate players, including a former senior partner of Deloitte; a former president of Duracell; and the Chair of leading UK Advertising company DLKWLowe.  Moreover, in Africa our Trustees include experienced individuals from each country of operation that includes an environmental analyst working for the United Nations Development Program; senior African economists and an executive director of the public affairs committee in Malawi.

David Young

David Young MicroLoan Trustee

David Young has international business experience in the food, household and consumer goods sectors. Previously he was Global President of Duracell Batteries and Chief Executive of an international food business. He is currently non-executive director of a medical company.




Greg Delaney

Greg Delaney MicroLoan Trustee

Greg Delaney is Chairman of the advertising agency Delaney Lund Knox Warren (DLKW) which he co-founded in 2000. Greg has helped grow DLKW into one of the UK's leading and most successful advertising and digital agencies, employing over 200 people.



Alex Tweedie

Alex Tweedie MicroLoan Trustee

Alex Tweedie lived in Africa for many years and has worked on volunteer projects for MicroLoan since 2005. Professionally he is an agricultural economist, banker, and accountant who also has interests in education publishing.


Ida Levine

  

Ida Levine Microloan TrusteeIda Levine is a lawyer and a Director of Capital International Limited, chairing its Audit Committee and managing the legal and compliance function. Ida also sits on global risk committees of Capital.  She is co-chair of the International Securities Regulation Committee of the International Law Association.


Iain Richardson

Iain recently retired after many years' finance experience in the oil and chemical industries both in the UK and overseas.

Caroline Ryan

Caroline Ryan MicroLoan Trustee

Caroline Ryan has a background in PR and publishing, and now works as a psychotherapist.
