There comes a time in our lives when we all need to make important decisions about our finances. Writing your Will allows your loved ones to carry out your final wishes.

We understand and respect that you need to provide for your family and friends first. We are incredibly grateful for any support that you can provide for women facing poverty in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our mission is to create a world where all those living in poverty have the opportunity to build better lives for themselves and their families. By deciding to remember us in your Will, this mission becomes part of your legacy.

Gifts big or small, remembering MicroLoan Foundation in your Will means that some of the poorest women in the world will have the opportunity to build better futures for their families. Whole communities can be transformed for generations to come.

With a consistent repayment rate of 97%, we can use your money again and again to help more and more women. This means that if you left us a gift of £10,000 in your Will, it could yield over £200,000 of cumulative profit in the entrepreneur’s local economy over just five years.

In this way, your gift will create a profound and lasting impact on the lives of these women and their families. You’ll be partnering with us to equip them with the skills to become self-sufficient, beyond your own lifetime and for generations to come.

Stand with us on our mission to create a world without hunger or poverty, where women can flourish as entrepreneurs so that their children can reach their full potential.

Leave a legacy to transform the life of a woman like Evelesi

Mother, entrepreneur, successful businesswoman and employer. Evelesi now runs three successful businesses with five employees

It is testament to Evelesi’s drive and determination that in just six years, she has almost tripled her weekly earnings. Evelesi’s success in business has not just transformed the life of herself and her family, but also her 5 employees and their families. When one woman thrives, a whole community can be positively impacted.

With a steady income, Evelesi can afford nutritious food, and school fees for her children – necessities she never had growing up. She recently purchased three plots of land on which she has built a secure, self-contained home for her family. She hopes to send her children to university so they can reach their full potential and achieve their dreams.

MicroLoan’s transformational impact has potential to engender long-term change. With support from MicroLoan, Evelesi has broken a cycle of intergenerational poverty, and rewritten the future of her family.

How do I leave a gift in my will?

Leaving a gift in your Will is perhaps the most rewarding thing you can do in your lifetime, and all it takes is a conversation with your Wills lawyer. If you’d like some more information, the MicroLoan Foundation team are happy to help, and there’s no pressure if you decide to change your mind.

How you choose to leave a gift in your Will depends on your personal preference or circumstances. A solicitor can ensure that your estate is distributed in the way you want.

Can I decide how I would like my gift to be used?

If you choose to tell us about your plans, we can welcome you as a special member of the valued MicroLoan community. We would love to chat over a cup of coffee about how your gift will be spent – your wishes are of utmost importance to us. ‘Unrestricted gifts’ (i.e. gifts you give us permission to use in ways we deem to make the biggest difference) are the most valuable to us, as we can direct these gifts towards our most urgent needs. If you’d rather, you can also leave a gift in your Will to a specific area of our work such as Malawi or training. To make contact with our friendly team, email contact@mlf.org.uk or phone +44 (0)20 8827 1688.

What type of gift can I leave?

We are immeasurably grateful for each and every gift we receive. There are three main types of gift you can leave to us:

● A residuary legacy is a percentage of whatever is left over from an estate after debts, funeral expenses, administration costs, and all other gifts have been paid. This can be any percentage you like. Many people choose this type of gift as it ensures their loved ones are taken care of first.
● A pecuniary legacy is a fixed sum of money; as big or small as you like. When it comes to helping vulnerable families to help themselves, every gift counts.
● A specific legacy is the gift of a particular asset, such as stocks or property.

What is Inheritance Tax?

A person is eligible to pay Inheritance Tax if their estate is worth more than £325,000 when they die. This is called the ‘Inheritance Tax threshold’. However, most gifts to charity in Wills aren’t subject to Inheritance Tax.

Visit the government website to find out more about how Inheritance Tax might affect your Will, or speak to your legal adviser.

I've already written my will, can I amend it to include MicroLoan Foundation?

Yes, you can ask your solicitor to make amendments to your Will at any time. Depending on the extent of the changes you would like to make to your existing Will, it might be possible for you to use a codicil to make your amendments. Please remember to include our full name and charity number. Our full name is MicroLoan Foundation. Our registered charity number for England & Wales is 1104287 and for Scotland is SC041941.

Do I have to pay tax on gifts left to charity?

No, gifts left to charity in your Will are tax-free.

Do I have to leave a large amount?

No, it’s a common myth that you have to leave a large amount of money to charity in your Will. In fact, even a small donation can make a huge difference to the causes you care about. See above the difference between a pecuniary and a residuary legacy.

Do I need to tell you if I'm leaving a gift in my Will to you?

No, it’s completely up to you if you tell us or not. If you are comfortable with telling us, we can have a conversation about how your gift will be spent.

How can I make sure my gift reaches MicroLoan Foundation?

To make sure your gift reaches us it’s important that you include our full name and charity number in your Will. Our full name is MicroLoan Foundation. Our registered charity number for England & Wales is 1104287 and for Scotland is SC041941.
