Lake of Stars 2009 a big success

The V-inspired Lake of Stars Festival 2009 took place over the weekend of 15th-18th October at the Nkopola Lodge on the southern lakeshore, near Mangochi. A healthy mix of Malawian favourites including The Black Missionaries and Lucius Banda took stage with an army of DJ's from around the world as well as UK indie favourites, The Maccabees.
A crowd made up of locals, travelling foreigners and expats in roughly equal meaures added to the rich mix of the event. Despite soaring temperatures and the odd powercut, the festival was a huge success for everyone involved.
The MicroLoan Foundation was the official charity partner of the event for the second year running, with the main purpose being to highlight the festival's commitment to reducing poverty in Malawi through supporting MicroLoan's activities. Throughout the four day festival, bands, DJ's and festival goers were invited on trips to visit MicroLoan clients in villages close to the festival site. With many people arriving at the festival direct from the airport, the chance to experience village life in Malawi and to meet some of our clients was an invaluable experience for many.
Further highlights included a visit from the Hon. Anna Kachikho MP, Minister for Tourism in Malawi, at the MicroLoan stand next to the main stage where various items of clothing and accessories made by our Microventures clients were on show.
